The Department of State Hospitals-Atascadero is a secure public sector hospital providing inpatient forensic services for mentally ill adult males who are court committed throughout the State of California.
The 12 month TAU/INT Student Assistant will be directed by the Staff Services Manager I in either the Employment Office, Personnel Office, or Return to Work office at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH).
The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:
Records and data management Data entry into various databases Provide customer service Answer incoming phone calls Assists with various office duties and special projects Pick up and distribute mail Assists the Human Resources Department in other areas, as needed The class provides a means of part-time or temporary employment whereby students may receive on-the-job instruction and perform work that will provide practical experience in work tasks related to their field of study and develop familiarity with the laws and programs administered by the State of California.
The class may be used for persons who have completed academic requirements but are working toward professional certification or registration, for persons in certain other fields such as health education, for which experience is a prerequisite for entrance to graduate school and for persons who have received a degree but are taking additional required course work for a specific career field.
This class is not intended to be used for permanent employment and no full-time permanent appointments will be made in this class.
Applicants possessing experience with adult psychiatric patients and/or prison inmates are preferred.

Expectations for entering the internship include but not limited to:
Completion of coursework towards a degree in Music Therapy with the anticipated completion of a bachelor's degree from an American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) accredited college or university.
Proof of application for, or enrollment as a student in, an appropriate college or university program.
