The Atascadero Mutual Water Company (AMWC) has an immediate opening for a Water Distribution Operator (WDO) Trainee.

Examples of Duties:
Recordkeeping of meters, gauges, and other measuring devices Operation and maintenance of various types of tools/equipment Performing a variety of general grounds and building maintenance duties Installing, repairing, tapping, disinfecting, testing, and flushing water mains Draining, cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining distribution reservoirs Operating pumps and related flow and pressure control and storage facilities Designing, setting up, and maintaining appropriate traffic control in work zones Operating equipment and tools used for the operation and maintenance of the water distribution system Laying out water system improvements from plans Performing excavations with equipment such as backhoes, boring machines, and vacuum excavators Calling in and marking job site locations for Underground Service Alert (USA) Locating and marking water mains and appurtenances as required by USA Preparing various reports such as vehicle safety, excavation, and valve location records Reading and updating water atlases, valve-tie records, and excavation reports Performing inventory control duties Completing service orders and documenting work performed Performing water meter rechecks and water service shut-offs and turn-ons Performing emergency shutdowns of broken water mains Required Knowledge:
Safe work practices; building and grounds maintenance; general recordkeeping practices and procedures, including basic computer operation; basic operating principles of a water distribution system and its appurtenances; basic operating principles of the tools and equipment used for the operation and maintenance of a water distribution system; basic work zone traffic control standards and procedures; basic electrical, carpentry, and plumbing practices and procedures.
Minimum
Qualifications:
- A Grade 2 WDO certification and/or one year of experience as a WDO trainee is desired - One year of construction experience - A valid Class C driver's license and a clean driving record Employment Information:
A reference check, pre-employment physical exam (including a drug screen), background check, and driving record check will be done if an employment offer is made.
If hired, you will need to obtain your Grade D3 WDO certification from the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) within three years of your hire date in order to perform the essential duties of a WDO and retain your employment with AMWC.
It is essential that all WDO's periodically perform on-call duty to respond to emergencies after their regular work shift.
